The Mt Moffatt section of Carnarvon National Park

There was incredible variation in the landscapes throughout the park.

The Mahogany Forest was spectacular - the photos didn't do it justice at all.

If we had more time we would have climbed up to The Mansions.  It wasn't in the park information but the rangers had told some of our fellow-campers about it.  We had enough time to get close enough for this photo.

Two wonderful weeks of campfires, camp oven cooking, sunrises, sunsets, night photography with the kids... and a little fossicking.

Back on the road

First stop was Isla Gorge...

Jimna

We expected all the good camping spots would be full between Christmas and New Year, but according the the online booking site there was lots of space at Jimna... and there was.  It was nice and quiet, with a number of family groups, but it certainly wasn't crowded.  We enjoyed a couple of walks, the beautiful smell of the bush and lots of sleep... a perfect break.
