Mount Isa to Mataranka
The trip west from Mount Isa was 450kms of mostly straight and flat country. There was a vicious side wind as a rain front approached, but at times the road swung around so we had a little bit of tail wind. Day 1 was beautiful and sunny and day 2 was cloudy and drizzly. Here are some views from the car and the closest we’ve had so far to an outback sunset.
We did a 50km round trip detour to Tennant Creek for fuel to save 30c/litre, so took a further detour of a few kilometres to see ‘The Pebbles’. The road was super corrugated, it was freezing cold and still raining but we saw them!
Day 3 of the ‘boring’ bit was 500kms to Mataranka. There were a few slight drops as we came off the tableland, and some thicker vegetation as we went further north. The main stop of the day was the iconic outback pub at Daly Waters.
