Pentecost River

We had three nights camped on the Pentecost River on the Gibb River Road. We were very excited that the bitumen goes all the way to the river now! The idea of staying here was to have some down time between marking in Kununurra and hiking in El Questro, and it was free. I picked up a sore throat at Kununurra, so I spent most of the time at the river coughing, and Dazz was still marking, so it wasn't completely relaxing, but we still went for some walks and saw some birds.

Black-fronted Dotterel

Little Shrikethrush (Arafura Shrikethrush)

Black Kite

Grey-crowned Babbler

Yellow-tinted Honeyeater

Rainbow Bee-eater - the challenge is to get it in flight

There was a croc in the river that had rope around it so the rangers were trying to catch it, but we didn't see it.

One afternoon we went for a drive across the river to the lookout over the Cockburn Ranges.

We didn't stay until sunset, but caught the colours just before we went back across the river.

A different view of the Cockburn Ranges on our way back to El Questro.
