Since we had work to do we couldn't go straight home. We spent a few days at the Goovigen recreation ground, which is only $10 per night for power. There was a water hole a short walk up the road.
On our day off we went for a drive out to the Callide Dam.
We tried to find the mine lookout, but didn't have much success. We did however see the mine... from the inside! As we followed the map the roads were looking more and more like they were going through a mine site until we decided that we probably really shouldn't be there. We took a quick photo through the windscreen and then turned around. On our way back out we found the "Stop - Mine site" sign half overgrown, and the gates had grass growing up through them. Not very good security!
There is some great silo art just outside of Monto.
We only did short days on the way home to keep on top of work. We spent a night at Kinbombi Falls and did the short walks down the steps to the lookouts.
Our last night was at the free camp at Wooroolin.
