Mullewa Wildflowers

As we neared the coast the scenery changed and there were more patches of wildflowers.

On our way to Mullewa we took a detour via Pindar to see the wreath flowers. I had read that they had begun to flower. As we drove up the road we were expecting to see other cars and vans, but it was empty. Just before the road divided into the loop Dazz spotted a flower to the right, but we were sure there would be a lot more on the loop... We were wrong. There were plants, but none in flower! So it was back to where he saw the first lonely flower for a photo.

It wasn't a wasted trip though. On the road in we had noticed a section that had a lot of wildflowers and when we got out of the car there were birds everywhere.

Splendid Fairy-wren

As we turned off the main road to Pindar we had noticed this field of flowers, so we stopped for a photo on our way back out.

We had planned to go into Geraldton to shop the day after we arrived in Mullawa (Thursday), but the weather forecast was for strong wind and rain on Friday, so we decided Thursday would be our wildflower walk day as we'd rather drive in the rain than walk in the rain. We started with the short wildflower walk near the caravan park and it took the whole morning! In the afternoon we went over to the other bushland walk and that's were we found the orchids.

Spider orchid

We're not sure if this was a spider orchid that's not fully formed, or if it's something else.

Donkey orchid

We also had a lot of fun spotting birds.

We did part of a tourist drive on Friday morning on our way to Geraldton. The green wheat fields everywhere are such a contrast to the constant red sand we've enjoyed for the last few months.

Halfway to Geraldton the rain started and it poured for a couple of hours and then kept showering for the rest of the day, so that was the end of the photos.
