We've come far enough south to feel the effects of the weather fronts that keep coming through. There was strong wind and showers on and off Saturday and most of Sunday. There seemed like a break in the weather around 2:30pm, so we decided to go for a walk up the town to the visitor information.
Although it was closed they had a detailed list of what is flowering and where on the notice board. Quite a few things seemed to be flowering at Orchid Ridge, about 16km from town. We decided this was close enough to attempt even though it was late afternoon, so we raced home, grabbed cameras and jumped in the car.
The reserve was in the middle of wheat fields. It turned out to be a lovely afternoon with lots of orchids and other flowers, although there were a couple that weren't quite out yet.
On the map at the visitor information I noticed that there was a Rabbit Proof Fence Road just a few kilometres beyond the Orchid Ridge. Sure enough, the road ran alongside the Rabbit Proof Fence. It's not quite so rabbit-proof anymore.
We had seen that there was going to be a full lunar eclipse, but it was between 1:30am and 3am. Dazz said that if he woke up he might go out for a look (if it wasn't cloudy or raining). Well, he woke up, and the sky was clear!
